Bengaluru, the 'Silicon Valley of India' is where the country’s new, confident and global identity is being forged. A once sleepy regional capital is today a modern, serene metropolis that will come as a big surprise to those who are arriving from other parts of the country for the first time. As wealthier Indians flock to live here, Bangalore has become a cosmopolitan city with a vibrant café and bar culture. The city might lack historical sites but more than makes up for it with its buzzing, relaxed and liberal atmosphere and a location that makes it a perfect base for exploring the beautiful and evocative destinations of South India.

1. Madikeri

The enchanting fragrance of coffee...The aroma of fresh cardamom, Black pepper and Coorg honey...The holy river Cauvery...Noticeably cool air...That is Madikeri. It is also known as the Kashmir of the south India for its scenic beauty. With its austere beauty, this god gifted, pollution free, calm and quiet land of mountains cordially invites you to experience its hospitality to make this holiday of yours an interesting chapter in your life. The wooded slopes, eccentric villages, colourful scenery and rugged landscape of Madikeri have fascinated tourists until today. Endless mountain ranges, ridge after ridge of slopes laden with forests rising to the sky, give Madikeri its unique & irreplaceable character. All this makes Madikeri an ideal weekend getaway from Bangalore. You can find more details about Madikeri at - Road Trip From Bangalore To Madikeri.

2. Kolli Hills

Kolli Hills or Kolli Malai is a tall hill range located in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. The mountains are about 1370 m in height and cover an area of approximately 280 km². It has the most insanely looking roads, a total of 70 hairpin curves! It was late afternoon when I slowly started the ascent and it was easy to feel the drop in temperature from down below. The hairpin curves come in quick succession and are simply a joy to ride. The forests on the hill were very thick and green. The Kolli hills are more like a plateau, a highland that rises from the hot flat land below and has many smaller hills and sharp cliffs on the top. There are a couple of great view points to enjoy the views of the greenery below. What more do you need to pack up your bags and start driving to Kolli Hills? You can find more details about Kolli Hills in the blog - A Road Trip to Kollli Hills - Conquering 70 Hair Pin Bends!

3. Dandeli

Any nature lover would be thrilled to hear the news of sighting a Black Panther! Any avid birder would be thrilled to hear the sighting of Great Hornbills! Any adventure lover would be thrilled to hear about amazing experience of white water rafting in river Kali!

You can experience all these three in Dandeli.

There are many places around Dandeli for tourists. You can visit Syntheri Rocks, a small falls beside a very huge rock! A very nice place to spend the evening. But it is not advisable to get into the water here as there are lots of casualties reported from past several years of people getting drowned in the water.

4. Antaragange

Known as Dakshina Kashi, it is a series of rocky hills situated in the Shathashrunga mountain range. There is a temple named Kashivishweshwara Temple in front of the pond dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The pond gets continuous water stream from Nandi throughout the year. The origin of the water is unknown but believed that the water is falling from head of Lord Shiva. Visitors carry this holy water in bottles because it is also believed that one can get rid of the diseases by drinking this holy water of Antaragange. There are seven villages on this mountain.

Important Tips:

  • Antaragange is over populated by wild monkeys. Do not carry food or eatables in front of Monkeys because it grabs anything from the visitors.
  • If you want to see the butterflies then the best time is morning before 8am after which all butterflies disappear.
  • Do take guide from local kids, I know we all like to explore the places by ourself but guide is a must at this place.

Antaragange is a perfect destination for a short roadtrip over a weekend. For more details, check out - Exploring the Caves of Antaragange.
